GLASGOW GOES MENTAL FOR K! TOUR
Nerves are the order of the day as tonight will be Biffy Clyro's hometown show, a sold-out date at the Glasgow Barrowlands. At midday, theAUDITION fans Julie and Vicky are waiting patiently outide the venue in the freezing cold to meet the band. They saw them last night as well. Julie pulls up her sleeve to reveal a tattoo dedicated to the band.
"I love the band and when I listen to their music it always reminds me of good times," she says. "I had a lyric from the song You've Made Us Conscious on one side of my wrist and the name of the band on the other. I saw them play at Download last year and thought they were amazing. They're all really nice people too."
Meanwhile, the band are catching up on some sleep in a freezing cold dressing room, waiting for the antiquated heater to come to life. Once awake, frontman Danny Stevens finds the pair and has a long chat. "I can't believe they've waited so long in the cold to says hello," he says later. "I hope they get the feeling back in their feet in time for the show."
The flu has swept through the touring party and The Bronx bassist James has nothing but praise for UK flu remedies. "I feel much better today as you guys have Nurofen Plus with codeine,"
he says, hinting at sponsorship. Possibly.
And how is Matt's knee? And why does he insist on crowd surfing every night? "I think he goes what you guys would describe as 'mental'," he smiles. "He's in pain but as soon as we play, he's compelled to dive right in."
The evening is a sweat-drenched, breathless and slightly giddy success and sees Biffy frontman Simon Neil join The Bronx for one-night only during False Alarm. "That was amazing," he smiles. "Its another thing to cross off my 'to do' list."
Post-show, the bands hang out in Biffy's dressing room as friends and family chat with the trio.
The Bronx frontman is grinning, clutching a bottle of Buckfast - a fortfied wine the locals refer to as 'fighting juice' - and hobbling on his crutch.
"I was told this drink would fuck me up and make me a little crazy," he slurs. "Its awesome. I can't wait to see what happens next. I like how Kerrang! are documenting this tour. You must feel like a war reporter. Have a swig."
And that's when things started to get hazy.
This is Simon Young, Kerrang!, reporting from Glasgow. With no shoes.
